THE FLATS - Georgia Tech athletics is excited to announce that it will celebrate Reck Day, presented by Coca-Cola, when Tech football hosts Duke for a pivotal ACC showdown on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field. Reck Day will feature exclusive ticket offers, giveaways and special in-game features commemorating the 65th anniversary of the Ramblin’ Reck, Georgia Tech’s one-of-a-kind mechanical mascot.
The Ramblin’ Reck is a 1930 Ford Model A Sport Coupe that embodies the spirit and character of the Institute and its student body. The Reck has led Georgia Tech’s football team onto the field for every home game since its debut in 1961.
The tradition began with a 1914 Ford Model T owned by Georgia Tech’s Dean of Men, Professor Floyd Field, a car that was first nicknamed the “Ramblin’ Reck” in a 1926 article in Tech’s student newspaper, the Technique, due to its dilapidated state – a true Wreck. As old cars went on to become a rite of passage for Tech students throughout the 1940s and 1950s, Dean of Students Jim Dull set out to find a pre-World War II Ford to serve as the Institute’s official mechanical mascot. He found the perfect vehicle in a restored black-and-gold 1930 Ford Model A Sport Coupe in 1960.
When Georgia Tech hosted Rice on Sept. 30, 1961, at Grant Field, the Ramblin’ Reck made its football debut, driven by Dekle Rountree, chairman of the Student Council Reck Committee, and introduced to the crowd by Don Gentry, president of the Ramblin’ Reck Club. The Yellow Jackets went on to shut out Rice, 24-0, and the Reck has remained a beloved symbol of Georgia Tech ever since.
Fans have the opportunity to celebrate the Ramblin’ Reck through a variety of ticket offers, giveaways, exclusive merchandise and in-game tributes in conjunction with Georgia Tech’s Oct. 10 showdown versus undefeated Duke.

GIVEAWAYS
- 25,000 Replica Reck Flags, featuring the TO HELL WITH GEORGIA and GIVE EM HELL TECH slogans proudly displayed from the front antennas of the Ramblin’ Reck, will be distributed to fans at Helluva Block Party and Bobby Dodd Stadium entry gates. Helluva Block Party will begin four hours prior to game time, and gates open two hours before kickoff.
- One-of-a-kind Ramblin’ Reck posters will also be given out to fans during Helluva Block Party. The commemorative posters will be available exclusively at Peters Parking Deck (on the north end of Bobby Dodd Stadium).
IN-GAME TRIBUTES
- Georgia Tech will recognize past and present Reck drivers with an in-game recognition.
- Ramblin’ Reck “Did You Knows” will be featured on the Bobby Dodd Stadium video board throughout the game.
Additionally, the Reck will make appearances around campus and throughout Atlanta during the week leading up to the game.
Kickoff time for the Oct. 10 Georgia Tech-Duke game, which also features a celebration of the Georgia Tech Sports Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026, will be announced by the ACC and its television partners on Monday, Sept. 28.
