THE FLATS – Georgia Tech senior running back Justice Haynes (Alpharetta, Ga./Buford H.S.) is a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation’s 2026 William V. Campbell Trophy. In its 37th year, the Campbell Trophy, often referred to as the “Academic Heisman,” is awarded annually to college football’s top scholar-athlete based on academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.
Haynes earned a bachelor’s degree from Alabama in just two-and-a-half years, graduating summa cum laude in business management with a minor in entrepreneurship in 2025. A dean’s list and president’s list student, he has pursued graduate studies at Michigan (2025) and Georgia Tech (2026-).
On the field, Haynes has amassed 352 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns through three games this season. He ranks among the top 25 nationally in total touchdowns (5 – 15th), rushing yards per game (95.3 – 23rd), total rushing yards (286 – 24th) and total points scored (30 – 25th). He has surpassed 100 yards from scrimmage eight times in his last 10 games (dating back to last season at Michigan), including 117 total yards (81 rushing, 31 receiving) versus then-No. 18 Tennessee on Sept. 12 and 167 yards (141 rushing, 26 receiving) last Saturday against Mercer. He has a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown in each of the last two games, becoming the first player in Georgia Tech history to record a rushing TD and a receiving TD in consecutive games.
For his career, Haynes has rushed for 1,759 yards and 22 touchdowns and has 1,974 yards from scrimmage and 24 total touchdowns across 35 games at Alabama (2023-24), Michigan (2025) and Georgia Tech (2026).
Haynes and the Yellow Jackets open Atlantic Coast Conference play on Saturday at Stanford (10:30 p.m. ET – TV: ESPN), then following a bye, return home to face Duke on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field.
