GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior outside hitter Tamara Otene has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week after leading No. 13 Georgia Tech (11-1, 2-0 ACC) to a pair of 3-1 victories over Clemson and NC State last week, the league office announced on Monday. The award marks Otene’s first career weekly recognition by the ACC.
Otene was a powerful presence for the Jacket attack over the first week of ACC play, racking up a team-leading 38 kills (4.75 k/s), two aces and an assist on top of her defensive contributions with 28 digs and three blocks. The efforts resulted in her sixth and seventh double doubles this season as she played a key role on both ends.
The New Zealand native opened the week with a personal best as a Jacket of 22 kills at a .300 clip alongside 15 digs, an ace and a block for the first double double against the Tigers. Otene followed with 16 more kills, 13 digs, two blocks and an assist for yet another double double facing the Wolfpack.
