Greensboro, N.C. – Following its 73-65 victory Saturday against Boston College to close out the regular season, Georgia Tech has the No. 13 seed for the 70th annual New York Life ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament at the Greensboro Coliseum, and opens play against No. 12-seed Florida State at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the opening round.
The Yellow Jackets closed out the regular season with road wins this week at Syracuse (96-76) and Boston College (73-65), and have won five of their last seven conference games to finish with a 14-17 overall record, 6-14 in the ACC. The Seminoles (9-22, 7-13 ACC) lost an 82-60 decision Saturday at Virginia Tech and enter the tournament with six losses in their last seven games.
Tech and Florida State are battling in the ACC Tournament for the fourth time. The Seminoles have won two of the three prior meetings, but the Yellow Jackets’ victory came in the championship game of the 2021 tournament by an 80-75 score in Greensboro. FSU won the only regular-season meeting between the two teams this season, 75-64 on Jan. 7 in Tallahassee. The winner of their game Tuesday will face No. 5 seed Pittsburgh at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Tech-FSU game tips off a trio of opening-round games Tuesday. The slate includes No. 10 Boston College (15-16, 9-11) facing No. 15 Louisville (4-27, 2-18) at 4:30 p.m., while No. 11 Virginia Tech (18-13, 8-12) takes on No. 14 Notre Dame (11-20, 3-17) in the nightcap at 7 p.m.
Sophomore 6-6 guard Miles Kelly (Stone Mountain, Ga.), one of the ACC’s top three-point shooters, leads the Yellow Jackets at 14.2 points per game while hitting 37.8 percent of his three-point tries for the season. Tech’s recent surge also has been led by a pair of transfer players, 6-2 senior guard Lance Terry (College Park, Ga.), who has averaged 14.2 points and has connected on 46.9 percent of his three-point tries over Tech’s last nine games, and 6-7 senior center Ja’von Franklin (Little Rock, Ark.), who has averaged 14.2 points and 11.9 rebounds per game over the same stretch.
