Tech Gears up for No. 5 Clemson

THE FLATS –  Georgia Tech softball (16-12, 2-4 ACC) is set to host No. 5 Clemson (29-1, 6-0 ACC) for its second series against a top-15 ACC opponent on The Flats and third conference series of the season. The Yellow Jackets are slated to open the series against the Tigers on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by game two on Saturday at 6 p.m. and the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m., all at Mewborn Field.

Game two of the series will be broadcast live on ACC Network. Games one and three will each appear on ACC Network Extra.

Parking

Parking will be available in both the McCamish lot and the Family Housing deck through the weekend.

Promotions

Friday’s series opener has been designated as Glow Night, featuring glow cups, face paint and a raffle during the evening.

Saturday’s game will celebrate Bark in the Park, including a contest for the best dog tricks as well as a DIY bowl giveaway. Fans who bring their own dog must sign a waiver prior to entry and will receive a wristband for in and out privileges. A map detailing locations for dogs inside the park is also available here.

The Yellow Jackets will honor active service members, ROTC students and veterans with Military Appreciation Day on Sunday. Georgia Tech will wear alternate camo uniforms for the occasion. A pair of ceremonial pitches will be thrown before the game, and a veteran shout out will be made during the game.

Storylines

• Georgia Tech recently topped its fourth Sun Belt opponent of the season, shutting out Troy, 6-0.
• Junior first baseman Abby Hughes carried the Yellow Jacket offense through the contest, being responsible for all six runs scored.
• The Leesburg, Ga., native piled up a career high five RBI on the night. She also tallied career bests with two doubles and two runs scored.
• Further, Hughes tied career marks with her three hits and a three-run round tripper, the second home run of her career.
• Tossing a gem, Dennis (10-4) pitched her third complete game of the season with no earned runs,
• Dennis owns two complete-game shutouts through seven innings and one five-inning complete game as she allowed no earned runs.
• The White and Gold downed three other Sun Belt opponents faced this season, including Georgia State, Southern Miss and Georgia Southern.
• The Yellow Jackets outmatched the Panthers [10-1 (5)] and the Eagles [11-3 (5)] for mercy-rule victories, including the latter as recently as last week.
• Tech also topped Southern Miss by way of a 1-0 shutout earlier this season.
• Senior right hander Blake Neleman has moved into second all-time in career strikeouts, also becoming the second Yellow Jacket ever to surpass 500 career strikeouts. She moved to 501 over the weekend.
• On the season, Neleman (93) and Dennis (65) have combined for 158 strikeouts.
• Defense has gone hand in hand with work from the circle this season as the Jackets are second in the ACC and seventh in the NCAA in fielding percentage (.980).
• The Yellow Jackets have also been aggressive as a unit on the base path, ranking third in the conference and 29^th in the nation in triples per game (.32).
• On top of marching through Tech’s record books in strikeouts, Neleman has picked up a pair of saves this season, moving up to six in her career as she’s now in an eight-way tie for third in program history in career saves.
• Amongst the conference this season, Neleman is third in the ACC with 93 punchouts.
• Racking up wins as of late, Dennis is now third in the ACC with 10 victories in the circle.
• Swatting a career-high third triple on the season against Georgia Southern, Kauf is currently second in the ACC and 29^th in the NCAA in triples.
• Sophomore righty Kinsey Norton has also been effective in both of her save situations this season, cashing in on both opportunities as she and Neleman are tied for fifth in the conference.

Standing room only tickets will be sold for $2 each if all other sections are sold out. Georgia Tech students and faculty/staff can receive free admission to regular season home games while seats remain available by showing a valid BuzzCard at the entrance.
