THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball (10-8) shut down Southern Miss (13-3) from the circle for a 1-0 victory in the I-75 Tournament, allowing just one hit on Saturday at Mewborn Field.
The arms of senior hurlers Chandler Dennis and Blake Neleman paved the way for the White and Gold while sophomore second baseman Grace Connelly scored what proved to be the only run the Yellow Jackets needed.
Dennis (5-3) got the start in the circle and received the win, not allowing a single hit while tallying six strikeouts in four innings of work. Neleman followed, tossing three scoreless innings and surrendering just one hit with three punchouts as she earned her first save of the season.
Connelly was one of six Jackets to climb aboard throughout the contest, but made the difference in the game in the bottom of the fourth. With one down, the Suwanee, Ga., native doubled and moved up a bag on an errant throw, scoring the game’s lone run soon after on a wild pitch.
