Georgia Tech Baseball Staff Extended

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech baseball coaches Danny Hall, James Ramsey and Danny Borrell have signed contract extensions through the 2025 season, Tech athletics announced on Wednesday. Ramsey has also been promoted to associate head coach.

The Yellow Jackets are coming off of back-to-back Coastal Division Championships in the Atlantic Coast Conference and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances under the leadership of Hall and his staff. This season, Tech is once again one of the nation’s top teams. The Yellow Jackets are currently ranked No. 21 nationally with a 27-18 overall record and hold a No. 17 RPI against the second-strongest schedule in the country. The Jackets’ 15 wins against top-50 teams in the RPI are tied with No. 1 Tennessee for the most nationally.

“I’m very pleased to announce that our baseball coaching staff – led by one of college baseball’s premier head coaches, Danny Hall – have signed contract extensions to remain on The Flats through at least the 2025 season,” Director of Athletics Todd Stansbury said. “With the leadership of Coach Hall, Coach Ramsey and Coach Borrell, as well as one of the nation’s finest facilities in the newly completed Mac Nease Baseball Park, Tech baseball is positioned to build on its status as one of college baseball’s top programs for years to come.”

A four-time ACC Coach of the Year, Hall’s accomplishments remain at the top of collegiate baseball. In his 29th year as Georgia Tech’s head coach, Hall is the all-time winningest Division I baseball coach in the state of Georgia (1,131 wins), the second-winningest active coach in Division I (1,339 wins) and the 20th Division I coach all-time to reach the 1,300-win milestone. The Coolville, Ohio native has also produced a staggering 148 total Major League Baseball Draft selections (seven in the first round), 130 all-ACC honors, 23 NCAA Regional appearances, six NCAA Super Regional appearances, seven ACC regular season/divisional championships, five ACC Tournament titles and led Tech to all three of its College World Series trips.

As impressive as his leadership has been on the field, Hall has also promoted hard work in the classroom at Georgia Tech, having 16 academic all-American selections, 13 additional academic all-district honorees and more than 200 student-athletes named to the ACC’s academic honor roll.

With this group of coaches, we will continue to compete for championships at the highest level and represent the Yellow Jackets well on and off the field.”

“In addition to extending the contracts for my staff, I’m excited to announce that James Ramsey will become associate head coach, while continuing to serve as our recruiting coordinator,” Hall continued. “It’s an honor to coach with these great men. We are dedicated to making our young men into champions on and off the field.”

Ramsey is promoted to associate head coach after leading the Yellow Jackets to the top of the ACC’s hitting charts in back-to-back full seasons. After hitting .300 in 36 conference games last season and leading the league in runs, hits, doubles, triples, RBI and on-base percentage, the Yellow Jackets have only soared higher in 2022, ranking in the top 5 nationally in batting average, hits, home runs, runs, scoring and slugging percentage.

Georgia Tech has also signed three-straight top-20 recruiting classes and two top-10 classes since Ramsey was named the team’s recruiting coordinator.

Borrell is in his second full season as Georgia Tech’s pitching coach after spending 18 years in the New York Yankees organization – first for seven as a pitcher before taking over as a pitching coach and then the pitching coordinator for its renowned farm system. The Yellow Jackets led the ACC in strikeouts in 36 conference games last season, and had Friday night ace Brant Hurter named all-ACC before being selected in the seventh round of the MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers.

Pinkham is entering his second year as Georgia Tech’s volunteer assistant and first base coach. A former catcher at Louisville, Pinkham works with Georgia Tech’s catchers and has been instrumental in the tutelage of freshman all-American Kevin Parada. Georgia Tech has a long history of producing elite catchers (Jason Varitek, Matt Wieters, Mike Nickeas, Joey Bart and more) and has earned the moniker “Catcher U.”
