Tech to Host Wisconsin in Big Ten/ACC Challenge

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech will host Wisconsin in the 23^rd renewal of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, with the game taking place on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta. ESPN announced the full lineup of matchups for the Challenge Monday in conjunction with the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Big Ten Conference.

All 14 games, to be played on Nov. 29-30 and Dec. 1, will air on ESPN’s networks and be available via the ESPN app. Game times and networks will be announced at a later date. Since its inception, the ACC is 12-7-3 in the Challenge and 138-113 in Challenge games.

This will be the second meeting between the Yellow Jackets and the Badgers in the annual Challenge, following Tech’s 62-61, come-from-behind victory on Dec. 28, 2001 at Alexander Memorial Coliseum, a game in which the Jackets trailed by 20 points in the second half. The all-time series is tied at a win apiece. Wisconsin won the first meeting, 104-84, on Dec. 28, 1963 in the Milwaukee Classic holiday tournament.

Georgia Tech has a 9-11 mark in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge and a 6-3 mark in Challenge games at home. The Yellow Jackets have won five of their last seven Big Ten/ACC Challenge matchups. Including a 75-64 triumph at Nebraska last December.

Maryland and Purdue remain the only Big Ten teams the Yellow Jackets have not faced in the annual series.

Ticket information, game times and television broadcast details will be released at a later date. Previously announced games on Georgia Tech’s schedule include the Jerry Colangelo Classic matchup with Southern California to be played Dec. 18 in Phoenix, Ariz., and the Nov. 19 game vs. Georgia in Athens.

More of Georgia Tech’s non-conference men’s basketball schedule will be announced in the coming weeks, while the Atlantic Coast Conference will announce the conference schedules for its teams in late summer. The Yellow Jackets have home-and-away series with Boston College, Clemson, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech, and will also host Florida State, Louisville, NC State and Wake Forest. Florida State, Clemson, North Carolina and Virginia Tech all played in the 2021 NCAA Tournament, with the Seminoles reaching the Sweet 16. (Tech will face Duke, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Virginia on the road only).

The defending ACC champion Yellow Jackets welcome back five of their top seven scorers for head coach Josh Pastner’s sixth season, including junior guard Michael Devoe (Orlando, Fla.), senior forward Jordan Usher (Canton, Ga.), senior guard Bubba Parham (Snellville, Ga.), senior forward Khalid Moore (Briarwood, N.Y.) and junior guard Kyle Sturdivant (Norcross, Ga.). Those returnees are bolstered by the transfer of guard Deivon Smith (Loganville, Ga.) from Mississippi State and a freshman class ranked No. 16 in the nation.

Wisconsin finished 18-13 overall last season, with a 10-10 conference record, good for a tie for sixth place in the Big Ten. The Badgers appeared in the NCAA Tournament, where they lost to eventual national champion Baylor in the second round.
