The Good Word

July 26, 2007

TO: Fans, Friends, and Supporters of Georgia Tech Athletics

FROM: , Georgia Tech Director of Athletics

The first week of August, when student-athletes from our fall sports team flock back to campus to begin preseason workouts, is a special time of year for those of us fortunate to work on a college campus. The clean-slate start of a new year, and the excitement that goes along with it, is really difficult to beat.

Our football players officially report Aug. 2 and begin practice bright and early Aug. 3. Chan Gailey believes that his players are more focused and have an extra bounce in their step as they prepare to open the season against a top-notch opponent like Notre Dame.

I can’t wait to get started.

The jet, loaded with Yellow Jacket fans, will leave Atlanta-Hartsfield-Jackson Saturday (game day), Sept. 1 at 9:30 a .m. and returns immediately following the game. In between, there is plenty of time to take in the great college football atmosphere at Notre Dame.

The cost of $540 per person, which does not include game tickets, bus transportation to and from the stadium, a tailgate party with food and beverages, and a light meal on the way home. The price does not include game tickets.

There must be a catch, right? The only catch is that the 141-seat jet must be sold out by August 1.

The Great Yellow Jacket Encounter I

Coach Gailey and the entire Yellow Jacket football team will meet and greet fans on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 3-5 p.m. at the north end of Historic Grant Field. This a great event for our fans of all ages, but it’s a great opportunity for kids to interact and get photos taken with the players.

This event, which is free, is a great way to get fired-up for the college football season.

GT Night At Turner Field

The evening prior to the Great Encounter, Georgia Tech student-athletes from many of our teams will be represented at GT Night at Turner Field. The Braves game vs. the Diamondbacks begins at 7:30 p.m.

Our student-athletes will sign autographs and take photos with fans. The marching band, cheerleaders and Buzz will all perform in the plaza area. It should be a fun night. Yellow Jacket supporters can get tickets for half-price by going to www. braves.com/gatech.

Miscellaneous

… Many of our football players and student-athletes from most of our teams will receive media training next week from a company called: Brand You Media Training. As often as our student-athletes are in front of the media, I think it’s important that we give them as much assistance as possible.

… Congratulations to seniors Tashard Choice and Philip Wheeler, who were named to the ACC Football Preseason Team. That’s high praise for those two guys, but many of us were surprised that they were the only Jackets to make the team.

As always, we welcome your feedback (goodword@athletics.gatech.edu ). Please know that even if I’m not able to send a personal message back to everyone, I do read each email and appreciate the support and passion of every Georgia Tech fan.
