THE FLATS — The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (10-9, 5-5) defeated the Louisville Cardinals, 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Ken Byers Tennis Center.
The win improves the Jackets home record to 10-2, dropping their only matches to then-No. 26 Tennessee and No. 3 Wake Forest.
The Jackets entered singles play leading 1-0 after clinching the doubles point from Phillip Gresk/Carlos Divar and Joseph Gandolfo/Pablo Schelcher.
Gandolfo/Schelcher bested Alex Wesbrooks/Marcus Sulen, 6-1 and moments later Gresk/Divar topped No. 90 Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff/Fabien Salle, 6-1 to clinch the doubles point.
In singles, Gresk dropped his match to Salle, 6-2, 6-2, and No. 62 Divar picked up a big win against No. 115 Morin-Kougoucheff, 7-5, 6-3.
Schelcher’s win over Sergio Hernandez, 6-4, 6-3, gave the Jackets a 3-1 advantage with Andrew Li, Cole Gromley, and Brandon Freestone still playing.
Freestone capped off the Jackets win defeating Clement Filho, 7-5, 6-3 giving the Jackets a 4-1 victory over the Cardinals.

“It was great honoring our seniors today and it is always nicer honoring them after a win,” said men’s tennis head coach Kenny Thorne. “We played some of our best doubles today and Phillip played one of his best doubles matches of the year. Andrew lost a tough first set in singles but fought his way back to split sets.”
“He was looking stronger and stronger as the match progressed. I was happy for the team but especially Andrew and Phillip today.”
