Marko Rajevac posted victories at No. 1 doubles and No. 4 singles as the No. 39 Georgia Tech men’s tennis team swept visiting Maryland 7-0 Friday afternoon. With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 9-3, 3-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference action while the Terrapins fall to 5-4, 0-3 in ACC play.
The Yellow Jackets opened the match winning the doubles point as the fifteenth ranked duo of Scott Schnugg and Marko Rajevac easily defeated the tandem of Ian Bliss and Scott Peters 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. Tech then earned the point as at No. 3 doubles, West Nott and Trevor McLeod teamed together to beat Scott Fink and Chase Dawson by a 8-3 score. At No. 2 doubles, Troy Demers and David Reichsfeld defeated Tech’s Jose Muguruza and Joao Menano, 8-5.
Tech carried its momentum into singles, posting victories in all six matches. Rajevac began singles by easily defeating John O’Rourke, 6-1, 6-2 while Schnugg won at No. 1 over Bliss, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Jason Pieters disposed of Demers, 6-2, 6-3 while Trevor McLeod swept Reichsfeld, 6-1, 6-3. In the final match of the afternoon, Zachary Rath held on for a three set victory over Fink, 6-1, 6-7 (3), 11-9.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Sunday when they host #19 Virginia (11-1, 1-0 ACC) at 1 p.m. at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
