Men’s Swim-Dive Ranked 19th

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s swimming and diving is ranked 19th in the preseason CSCAA Division I poll. Tech finished 18th in the final poll for the 2020-2021 season.

The Yellow Jackets join six ACC teams in the preseason poll, including No. 15 Florida State, who the White and Gold face Oct. 23 at McAuley Aquatic Center.

The men’s diving team boasts Ruben Lechuga who is top-10 on all three boards in program history. He is just two points off of the nearly decade-old record on the 1-meter.

The men’s team benefits from three fifth year returning swimmers. Christian Ferraro returns to The Flats after earning All-American status in 2019 and 2021 in 200 fly (2019) and 100 fly (2021). Ferraro earned All-ACC status in 2020 and 2021. Ferraro owns the program record in the 100 fly and 200 fly. He is also the only swimmer, male or female, who has swam with every top relay team.

Caio Pumputis is one of the most decorated swimmers in Georgia Tech history. Pumputis is a five-time All-American, earning the honor in the 100 breast (2019), 200 breast (2019 and 2021) and 200 IM (2019 and 2021). He has been All-ACC every year at Tech spanning eight different events. Pumputis owns the Georgia Tech records in the 100 breast, 200 breast, and 200 IM while also swimming with the top 400 free relay, 800 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay teams.

Austin Daniel rounds out the groups of men’s returners. Daniel is ninth in program history in the 100 free and has swim with the top 200 free relay and 200 medley relay teams in program history.

Three men’s swimmers competed at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Pumputis represented Brazil while Berke Saka and Batur Ünlü represented Turkey at the games. Ünlü had a record setting first year at Georgia Tech setting the top times in the 200 free and 500 free. He also swam with the top 400 free relay and 400 medley relay teams while coming up 0.47 seconds shy of the school record in the 100 free.

The Yellow Jackets are having their Pink Out match on Oct. 23 to raise awareness for breast cancer. The event will feature a pink shirt giveaway to the first 200 fans in attendance. Georgia Tech swimming and diving participated in the Swim Across America event on Oct. 2 raising over $11,000.
