Men's Golf Knocks Off Georgia to Advance to Finals of 2000 CGF Match Play Team Championships

The Georgia Tech men’s golf team defeated Georgia and Texas this afternoon to advance to the finals of the College Golf Foundation’s National Intercollegiate Match Play Team Championships, presented by Rolex at the West Bay Club in Estero, Fla. The Yellow Jackets will face Arizona in tomorrow’s finals.

Georgia Tech, the No. 5 seed in the tournament, knocked off top seed Georgia, 3-2, in the semi-final round and will meet No. 3 seed Arizona in the finals. Arizona defeated No. 7 seed UNLV in this afternoon’s semi-final, 4-1, to advance to tomorrow’s championship match.

In the first round, Georgia Tech beat No. 4 seed Texas in a tie-breaker (2.5-2.5)and Arizona defeated No. 6 seed Northwestern, 3-2.

This afternoon’s second round was called due to darkness at 5:40 p.m. ET, with the final results determined based on where the matches stood at the time of the suspension of play, per the tournament’s conditions of competition.

Tomorrow’s final round will begin with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. ET.
