Martin’s Run Comes to Close in Atlanta Open

ATLANTA, Ga. – After dominating in the first round Tuesday night, Georgia Tech’s Andres Martin’s run in the 2022 Atlanta Open came to a close on Thursday as the Yellow Jacket fell to No. 78 Adrian Mannarino in the second round.

Martin raced out of the gate, breaking Mannarino in his first service game and extended his lead to 4-1 against the 18-year ATP Tour veteran. But Mannarino won six of the next seven games to take the first set, 7-5. The opponents were on serve at 3-3 in the second set before Mannarino claimed the final three games, sealing the match, 7-5, 6-3.

Martin earned a wild card into the main draw of the Atlanta Open over the summer and cruised to a straight set, 6-3, 6-2, victory over No. 69 Thanasi Kokknakis on College Night on Tuesday for his first ATP Tour victory.

The Atlanta Open is held each year in July in Atlantic Station and is one of the summer tournaments of the US Open Series. The tournament features men’s top world tennis players in singles and doubles. Former Yellow Jackets Christopher Eubanks, Juan Spir and Kevin King have all participated in past Atlanta Opens.
