THE FLATS – Tight end Dylan Leonard (Milton, Ga./Milton H.S.), running back Dontae Smith (Spring Hill, Tenn./Spring Hill H.S.) and defensive back Zamari Walton (Melbourne, Fla./Melbourne Central Catholic H.S.) will join head coach Geoff Collins in representing Georgia Tech at the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference Kickoff on Thursday, July 21 in Charlotte, N.C. The ACC Kickoff is the league’s annual preseason media days event.
Leonard, Smith, Walton and Collins are among the 56 ACC student-athletes and head coaches that will be at The Westin Charlotte to preview their teams ahead of the 2022 season. Georgia Tech will join its Coastal Division rivals for the second day of the ACC Kickoff, as Atlantic Division teams will open up the event on Wednesday, July 20.
Expansive coverage of the ACC Kickoff will be carried on ACC Network, including live coverage from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Thursday. ACCN’s Thursday coverage will include live interviews with Walton at 11:40 a.m., Collins at 2:05 p.m. and Leonard and Smith at 3 p.m. Additionally, ACCN Extra (available on the ESPN app and at watchespn.com) will carry Georgia Tech’s full formal press conference with all four representatives, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Last year, Georgia Tech was represented at the 2021 ACC Kickoff by linebacker Ayinde Eley, quarterback Jeff Sims and defensive back Juanyeh Thomas. The trio went on to combine for 29 starts for the Yellow Jackets in ’21. Eley ranked second on the team in tackles (90), Sims led the team in passing yards (1,468), passing touchdowns (12) and total offense (1,840 yards) despite making just six starts due to injury, and Thomas led Tech with six pass breakups before joining the Dallas Cowboys this spring. Eley’s and Sims’ return in 2022 will give Georgia Tech five players on the roster this fall that have represented the team at the ACC Kickoff.
