Andriane Lapsley, Kristi Miller, Cameron Tringale, and Mike Trapani were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, April 24, 2006.
Lapsley, a senior from San Antonio, Texas, led the track and field team to a fourth place finish at the ACC Championships. Lapsley picked up two ACC titles, winning the 100 meter dash and as a member of the 4×100 meter relay team. She also earned All-ACC honors in the 200 meter run with a second place finish. In addition, she finished in fourth place in the 110 high hurdles.
Miller, a sophomore from Marysville, Mich., led the women’s tennis team to its second straight ACC Championship with wins over NC State, Clemson and Miami. She went 3-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles during the tournament, including a straight-set win over No. 2 Audra Cohen of Miami. For her performance, she was named the tournament’s MVP.
Tringale, a freshman from Laguna Nigel, Calif., won medalist honors at the ACC Championship, winning the tournament by one shot. Tringale’s performance helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a share of the ACC Championship with North Carolina. Tringale, who won his second tournament title this season, became the first player from Georgia Tech to win the ACC individual title since 2000.
Trapani, a senior from Dunwoody, Ga., hit .615 to lead Georgia Tech to a perfect 4-0 record on the road last week, including a three-game sweep at No. 5 Florida State. The senior second baseman was 8-for-13 with six RBI and six runs scored. He also walked three times, posting a .706 on base percentage, and was perfect in 20 fielding chances. For the season, Trapani is hitting .328 with 32 RBI.
