Kosic Named Speedo Performer Of The Week

Jan. 8, 2014

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech junior Andrew Kosic was honored by Swimming World Magazine as its Speedo Performer of the Week following an impressive meet versus No. 8 Louisville this past weekend in Atlanta.

Kosic showed no rust coming off the holiday break as the junior sprinter went head-to-head with the Cardinals’ Joao DeLucca in both the 50 and the 100 freestyles. Kosic and DeLucca tied for the victory in a thrilling 50 in a time of 20.41, while DeLucca had the edge in the 100.

But Kosic put down an impressive 20.12 time (two-tenths off his season best) on the leadoff leg of the Jackets’ 200 free relay to help secure the Speedo weekly honor.

Kosic remains ranked among the ACC leaders in both the 50 and 100 free events, currently ranked fourth in the 50 (19.92) and sixth in the 100 (43.88).

The Yellow Jackets return to action January 18 at Emory at 11 a.m.
