THE FLATS – Andrew Jenkins launched a first-pitch solo home run in the ninth to power Georgia Tech baseball to an 8-7 win over Pitt on Thursday at Cost Field to secure a berth in the 2022 ACC Tournament.

The Yellow Jackets (31-21, 13-15 ACC) jumped out to a 7-0 lead, thanks to a three-run homer from Drew Compton, Tres Gonzalez RBI double and Tim Borden II RBI single. Borden would then also hit a solo home run in the third.

The Panthers (27-24, 13-14 ACC) then battled back to tie the game, but the ninth-inning home run from Jenkins allowed RHP Zach Maxwell (5-0) to slam the door, going 2.2 inning to close. Maxwell surrendered just one run on three hits while punching out four.

Also rock solid in relief was LHP Sam Crawford, who pitched 2.0 shutout innings and scattered three hits with three strikeouts.

Four Yellow Jackets finished with multiple hits with Kevin Parada going 2-for-5, Gonzalez went 3-for-5 and Colin Hall went 2-for-4. Hall had a triple and then scored on a wild pitch in back-to-back pitches.

Sky Duff led Pitt with a 3-for-5, two RBI night. RHP Baron Stuart (1-4) received the loss, allowing the one home run on two hits in 1.0 innings to close.

Georgia Tech continues its series against Pitt on Friday night at Cost Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.
