THE FLATS – Georgia Tech sophomore first baseman Andrew Jenkins was named a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week and ACC Player of the Week, following a scorching-hot, 10-hit close to the regular season in which the Jackets won five straight.
On the week, the Atlanta native drove in nine off 10 hits, two doubles and four home runs, including the go-ahead ninth-inning homer in Game 1 against Pitt to catapult Tech to a sweep.
In 23 at-bats last week, Jenkins hit .435 and recorded a .440 on-base percentage, refusing to strikeout the entire week.
Jenkins closed the week continuing to showcase himself as one of the greatest threats in the ACC at the plate, earning first-team All-ACC honors on Monday. Jenkins led the ACC in hits (89), is second in batting average (.389), third in doubles (20) and total bases (162), and ninth in RBI (62). Where he has been most impressive is in conference action. Just against league opponents, Jenkins hit .404 (third) and slugged .765 (second), while leading the ACC in hits (55) and runs (40) while ranking seventh in home runs (12).
Jenkins and the Yellow Jackets look to remain red-hot as they head to the ACC Tournament in Charlotte, N.C. Georgia Tech plays Tuesday against Pitt and then Thursday against Louisville at Truist Field. First pitches for both are scheduled for 11 a.m. and will be broadcast live on the ACC’s Regional Sports Networks and WREK 91.1 FM.
