Jaylon King Named All-America

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech senior defensive back Jaylon King (La Vergne, Tenn./Ensworth) has been named third-team all-America by College Football Network, the organization announced on Tuesday.

In addition to the all-America honor, King was also named CFN’s ACC Safety of the Year. Also on Tuesday, King was named second-team all-ACC by the Associated Press.

Coming back from a leg injury that cost him the final seven games of the 2022 season, King has intercepted four passes and recovered two fumbles for the Yellow Jackets in 2023. His four interceptions are tied for third in the ACC and 20th nationally, while his two fumble recoveries are good a tie for second in the conference and 17th in the nation. His six total takeaways are tied for tops in the ACC while his 12 passes defended rank third in the league. He also ranks third on the team at Georgia Tech with 65 tackles and has blocked a kick.

In addition to being tied for third in the ACC and 20th nationally, King’s four interceptions are the most in a season by a Yellow Jacket since Jamal Golden and D.J. White had four apiece in 2014 and his six total takeaways are the most by a Jacket since Jerrard Tarrant had six in 2010 (three interceptions, three fumble recoveries).

King is the Yellow Jackets’ first all-American since running back Jahmyr Gibbs in 2021, the first defensive back to earn all-America recognition at Tech since Morgan Burnett in 2008 and the 92nd overall all-American in Georgia Tech’s illustrious football history.

King and the Yellow Jackets conclude their season on Friday, Dec. 22 at the Union Home Mortgage Gasparill Bowl in Tampa, Fla. versus UCF. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium.
