Jackets Welcome Emory, Conclude Fall with Georgia Southern

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball will wrap up its fall slate with a pair of contests this weekend, hosting nearby opponent Emory on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Mewborn Field before concluding the fall season with a neutral-site game against Georgia Southern on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Adel-Cook Sports Complex in Adel, Georgia.

Fans of all ages are invited to attend the games at both venues with admission being free to the public. Parking for Friday’s game against Emory at Mewborn Field will be available in the McCamish lot.

The Emory Eagles came into the fall on the heels of a 9-2 spring season in 2021. The Georgia Southern Eagles, meanwhile, entered fall ball with a familiar face taking the reins in longtime Tech head coach Sharon Perkins. After compiling a 290-138 record for a .678 winning percentage on the way to three ACC titles, six NCAA appearances and three ACC Coach of the Year honors on The Flats, Georgia Southern hired Perkins to lead the Eagles in May 2021. Georgia Southern finished last spring at 17-26 (9-14 Sun Belt) under the previous regime and has three fall contests under its belt to date.

The Yellow Jackets head into the final weekend of the fall after splitting a doubleheader two weeks ago at South Carolina and claiming both contests of a doubleheader against North Georgia last Sunday.

Georgia Tech enters its fifth season under coach Aileen Morales, bringing back 15 returners from last season’s squad. Among the notable returners are Justin’s World of Softball Third Team All-American, NFCA First Team All-Region and First Team All-ACC first baseman Tricia Awald along with First Team All-ACC and All-ACC Freshman Team catcher Emma Kauf. The decorated duo is joined by ace right-hander Blake Neleman as well as regular starting middle infielders Bailee Zeitler and Jin Sileo.

The stable of returners is bolstered by the Yellow Jackets’ No. 17 ranked recruiting class, tabbed second amongst the ACC and composed of eight highly-touted new Jackets.
