A Closer Look
The Jackets will make their official return to O’Keefe Gymnasium hosting the Georgia Tech Classic, where they’ll take on Mississippi State (Sept. 9), Indiana (Sept. 10) and Oklahoma (Sept. 12). Tech will wrap up non-conference play with Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate against Georgia (Sept. 18). The Gold and White will then begin conference play, hosting nine Atlantic Coast Conference foes in Louisville, Notre Dame, Duke, North Carolina, NC State, Miami, Florida State, Pitt and Clemson.
Over the course of the past two seasons, Georgia Tech is 23-2 at home in O’Keefe Gymnasium. The Jackets have won 17 of their last 18 home matches and went 6-1 on The Flats in 2020-21. Tech is 282-99 (.740) all time in O’Keefe Gymnasium’s 26-year history.
Following a pair of home exhibition matches – the Gold-White scrimmage (Aug. 15) and a meeting with South Carolina (Aug. 21) – Georgia Tech will begin the season on the road at the UCF Challenge by taking on Penn State and UCF (Aug. 27) as well as St. John’s (Aug. 28). The Yellow Jackets will trek across the country to follow, heading to the Long Beach State Tournament to face Long Beach State (Sept. 3) and UCLA (Sept. 4). Following a neutral battle with Arkansas in Raleigh, N.C. (Sept. 16), Tech will finish out its road play with ACC competition against Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Pitt, Clemson, Syracuse, Boston College, Louisville and Florida State.
Tech will battle stiff competition on the road to a potential second straight appearance in the Big Dance as six 2021 opponents competed in the reduced field of 48 teams in the 2020 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship, and five of those six finished ranked in the final 2020 American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25. The Jackets concluded the 2020 season ranked in the final AVCA poll, coming in at No. 22.

Gearing up
Georgia Tech heads into the 2021 season on the heels of a 2020-21 season that saw the Jackets advance to the Second Round of the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship for the first time since 2004. The Yellow Jackets took down Lipscomb in the First Round for their first NCAA Tournament win in nearly 21 years. The berth in the Big Dance alone marked the 10th time in program history, the first for the Yellow Jackets since 2009 and the first appearance under coach Michelle Collier. Going beyond 2019’s NIVC title, Tech has won 32 of its last 38 matches.
Tech had three Jackets receive yearly honors in Mariana Brambilla (AVCA All-American, All-ACC First Team), Julia Bergmann (AVCA All-American, All-ACC First Team) and Matti McKissock (All-ACC Second Team). The three decorated upperclassmen along with seven more letter winners, including all regular starters and 99 percent of 2020’s production across the board, will return to The Flats for the 2021 campaign.
