Jackets Roll, Thwart Bears in Midweek Rout

Box Score (.pdf)

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech baseball took care of business with a complete effort, routing Mercer 15-2 on Tuesday night at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Against one of the top offenses in the country, the Yellow Jackets’ (24-14) pitching staff held them to just four hits total. Starter RHP Aeden Finateri opened the first two innings and surrendered two runs on just one hit. The bullpen then took over and was dominant as RHP John Medich (3-2), LHP Joseph Mannelly and LHP Luke Bartnicki allowed just two hits over the next six innings with Medich punching out a career-high six.

LHP Camron Hill then slammed the door with a clean shutout inning in the ninth.

As another top offense in the nation, Tech belted out 15 hits on the night, getting led by Stephen Reid, who finished 3-for-5 with two homers and a double for six RBI. Also red-hot at the plate was Kevin Parada, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, and Colin Hall, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Chandler Simpson and Tim Borden II also finished with two hits with Borden also driving in a run.

The Bears (31-6) had their 12-game winning streak snapped as Wesley Franklin (3-1) received the loss, surrendering four runs on three hits in 2.1 innings. Offensively, they were led by Treyson Hughes, who finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Georgia Tech looks to keep its momentum when it hosts Duke in another key ACC series on April 22-24. First pitches are scheduled for 6 p.m., 4 p.m., and 2 p.m., respectively and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra on Friday/Saturday, with Sunday’s game aired nationally on ACC Network.
