Georgia Tech seeks its first conference win on Thursday when it travels to Virginia for the first time since 2019. The Jackets opened ACC play on Dec. 18, falling at Boston College, but got back to winning ways closing out non-conference play against Furman on Dec. 21. Tonie Morgan was two assists shy of hitting a triple-double against the Paladins, finishing with 11 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Cameron Swartz and Bianca Jackson continue to lead GT offensively on the year, averaging 13.4 and 12.8 points per game, respectively.

Virginia entered the national rankings at No. 25 in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches Poll on Dec. 20, but fell out of the top 25 after suffering its first loss of the season at Duke last week. It marked the first time the Cavaliers were ranked in the top 25 since 2010. Mir McLean paces the Virginia offense, averaging 13.0 points per game. She is followed by Camryn Taylor and Sam Brunelle, each averaging double-figures.

Virginia leads the all-time series against Georgia Tech, 58-18, but the Yellow Jackets have taken the past two meetings, including a 67-31 win last season in Atlanta. Tech looks for its first win at Virginia since 2015.

Competitive Drive Initiative

In a unified endeavor, Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech Foundation, Georgia Tech athletics and the Alexander-Tharpe Fund have come together to accelerate funding for student-athlete scholarships with the launch of the Competitive Drive Initiative. The initiative met its initial fundraising goal of $2.5 million in less than six weeks and has extended its target to $3.5 million raised by Dec. 31. Any new gift to the A-T Fund’s Athletic Scholarship Fund made through Dec. 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Georgia Tech Foundation, meaning that if the $3.5 million fundraising goal is met, the matching gift would result in a $7 million impact for Georgia Tech athletics.
