Jackets Open Competition at NCAA East Prelims

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Georgia Tech track and field opened the NCAA East Preliminaries on Thursday afternoon in Lexington. Sophomore Avery Bartlett highlighted the day’s events, advancing to the next round of the men’s 800m.

Bartlett advanced to Friday’s quarterfinals of the 800m, earning an automatic qualification by finishing second in his heat, and finishing 15th overall with a time of 1:49.73. William Solomon leapt to a mark of 7.24m in the men’s long jump, finishing 23rd. Although he did not advance to the next round, Solomon will compete in the triple jump on Saturday.

Marinice Bauman raced first for the Jackets in the first round of the women’s 400m hurdles. Bauman raced a time of 1:00.42 for a 31st-place finish. She did not advance to the quarterfinals. Melissa Fairey posted a time of 36:40.20 in the women’s 10,000m semifinals but did not make it into the finals in Eugene, Oregon.

Competition resumes on Friday at 2 p.m.
