TOP STORYLINES

• Georgia Tech baseball begins its ACC season on the road in 2019 when it travels to take on Miami (Fla.) in Florida on March 8-10.

• The Yellow Jackets are 6-1 in their last seven games and are looking to stay red hot after playing seven games in seven days.

• The Georgia Tech-Miami matchup has become a more intense rivalry over the last few years, with two games in the last two years going to extra-innings and Tech winning four of the last six after UM had gone 7-1.

• Two weeks in the making, Tech’s bats have finally come alive in the last week as they’ve launched at least 10 hits in five-straight games.

• Leading the hitters has been a monster week by Kyle McCann, who slugged .947 for eights hits, three homers (one grand slam) and earned ACC Player of the Week and Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week honors.

• He then followed that performance up with three home runs in two games against Kennesaw State to move into first in the ACC for homers and second in the country.

• DH Michael Guldberg continues to be atop the team leaderboard, batting .429 with a .475 on-base percentage. Guldberg is one of just two players in the country yet to strike out and the lone ACC player.

• Center fielder Nick Wilhite has also caught fire of late, hitting .407 over the last seven games for 11 hits and four RBI. He sported a .444 slugging and .429 on-base percentage.

• On the mound, Tech still shows signs of dominance. Xzavion Curry threw 5.0 shutout innings on in Game 1 vs. Northwestern while Connor Thomas gave up just two in 7.

• The real shining moment was when Brant Hurter fanned 13 batters over 7.0 shutout innings, despite finishing with a no decision.

• During the previous midweeks, Tech showed their depth by throwing both Cort Roedig and Amos Willingham for starts in the Tuesday-Wednesday.

• Roedig in his first two starts has allowed just six hits and one earned run for a 0.96 ERA. He’s also struck out eight batters and walked two in 9.1 IP to keep his opponent’s batting average to .188.

• Willingham has also shined in his first two starts, going 11.0 innings and allowing just eight hits and one run. With an 0.82 ERA, he’s fanned eight total and kept his opponent’s average at .195.

• First baseman and RHP Tristin English will look to carry forward his momentum from being a Cape Cod All-Star last summer. The redshirt-junior is a two-time 2019 preseason all-American entering this weekend, as he’s expected to be one of the country’s top two-way players.

• Preseason expectations have been at an all-time high as the Yellow Jackets have built themselves into one of the oldest teams in the country, returning seven of nine starters and losing zero starting pitchers from a season ago.

• However, the Jackets will have to contend with the loss of Joey Bart and Wade Bailey to the MLB Draft, but McCann and Luke Waddell have looked primed and ready to take over at catcher and second base, respectively.

• Waddell missed four-straight games with a knee injury but returned for the Northwestern series. In his five games back, he’s batting .333 with five hits, two doubles and five RBI.
