Jackets Freshman Records First Win

THE FLATS – Day One of the Bulldog Invitational is in the books. Ángel Guerrero Melgar won his first match for Georgia Tech. The freshman went up against against Emil Westling of Furman wining his match, 6-4, 6-4, in the Black Draw.

Pablo Schelcher competed in the Magill Draw against Miguel Perez Pena of Georgia dropping his match in three sets, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6. Brandon McKinney lost in the Red Draw to Jakob Cadonau of Georgia Tech, 6-4, 6-4.

In doubles play, Guerrero and Schelcher paired up to face Perez Pena/Johnston of Georgia in the Magill Draw. Guerrero Melgar/Schelcher dropped the match 8-5.

Play continues Saturday for the Jackets. Guerrero Melgar starts his day against Gabriel Hurtado of UNC Wilmington at noon, Schelcher faces Jake Beasley of South Carolina in his first match and McKinney will play against David Innocenti of UNC Wilmington. Each player will have a second match later in the day.

There will only be one doubles match for Guerrero Melgar/Schelcher. They will take on the pairing of Beasley/Story of South Carolina.
