Waikoloa, Hawaii – John-Tyler Griffin shot a 3-under-par 69 Friday, and Georgia Tech posted a final-round score of 4-under 284 and finished fourth in the Amer Ari Invitational golf tournament.

James White and Kyle Scott each added 1-under-par 71s, and Richard Werenski added a 1-over 73 Friday as the 5th-ranked Yellow Jackets shot 20-under-par 844 in their first spring event. Fourth-ranked Oklahoma State shot 9-under 279 Friday and completed 54 holes at 34-under-par 830 on the 7,074-yard Waikoloa Kings’ Course.

Seventh-ranked Texas, with the day’s best score of 13-under 275, finished five strokes back in second place (29-under 835). No. 2 UCLA was third at 28-under 836. The 20-team field included five teams in the nation’s top 10 and 12 of the top 50.

“The guys played well all three days; they just didn’t make enough putts the last two days to keep pace,” said head coach Bruce Heppler. “Obviously you have to have your best effort when No. 1 and No. 2 are in the field. We have played in the last group in all five events this year. We are playing the last round with good players and teams which will provide great experience as we move forward.”

Griffin, a senior from Wilson, N.C., had seven birdies and four bogeys on his card Friday, posting his 13th round of par or better in 18 this year. He finished the tournament with a 54-hole total of 210, 6-under-par, and tied for 14th.

White’s closing 71 left him at 7-under 209 and placed him in a tie for 10th, his third consecutive top-10 finish. Scott tied for 28th place at 3-under 213. Werenski and Paul Haley, who carded a 75 Friday, tied for 51st at 1-over 217.

Forty of 114 individuals broke par for 54 holes. Daniel Miernicki of Oregon, who shot an opening-round 62, finished in a three-way tie for medalist honors with Patrick Cantlay of UCLA and Bobby Hudson of Texas at 13-under-par 203.
