Georgia Tech's George Gvelesiani Advances to Main Draw at ITA Mideast Regional

Georgia Tech men’s tennis player George Gvelesiani won two matches in the qualifying singles bracket to earn a birth into the main draw at the ITA Mideast Regional in Chapel Hill, NC.

Wednesday’s action included the qualifying singles phase of the tournament with a draw of 64 players. Those winning two matches and reaching the round of 16 automatically advanced to the main draw which begins Thursday. The main draw will consist of a 128-player singles bracket.

Gvelesiani began the day defeating Jeffrey Schnell of American University in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Later in the afternoon, Gvelesiani held on to defeat Louis Lavalle of Maryland in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

Gvelesiani will join teammates Scott Blackmon, Jordan Delass, David North, Marko Rajevac, and Zachary Rath in the main draw of singles that begins Thursday morning.

Full tournament results will be updated throughout the day at www.tarheelblue.com while results for Georgia Tech players will be released at the completion of the day’s event.
