Georgia Tech #ProJackets Golf Report

THE FLATSChesson Hadley follows up top-10 at Travelers with another at John Deere Classic … Will Dickson wins GPro Tour Championship for his second professional victory … More details below in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.

HADLEY HAS BACK-TO-BACK TOP-10 FINISHES

Chesson Hadley’s late-season rally continued last weekend at the John Deere Classic, where he tied for 10th place at 14-under-par 270 after rounds of 67-69-67-67. It was the second straight top-10 weekend for Hadley, who finished fifth the previous weekend at the Travelers Championship, and who has posted eight consecutive rounds in the 60s.

The Raleigh, N.C., native has risen nearly 70 spots to No. 137 in the last two weeks, ever closer to the top 125 needed to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs and retain his PGA Tour card for 2022-23. Hadley had missed the cut in 14 of 21 events prior to his recent surge.

The only negative from last weekend was falling short of grabbing one of the three spots available for the Open Championship in two weeks. Three qualifying spots were awarded to top-10 finishers, otherwise not exempt, at the John Deere, which turned out to be the top three finishers in the event – J.T. Poston, Emiliano Grillo and Christian Bezuidenhout.

Cameron Tringale, who took the weekend off, is exempt into the Open Championship as one of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking in Week 21 of 2022. Stewart Cink and David Duval are also in the field as former champions under the age of 60.

Vincent Whaley (T-43) and Seth Reeves (66th) also made the cut at the John Deere. Whaley sits No. 117 in FedEx Cup points, while Tringale (37th) and Matt Kuchar (47th) are the only other former Yellow Jackets currently in the top 125. Cink is at No. 129.

The PGA Tour has two concurrent events this weekend, co-sanctioning the Genesis Scottish Open with the DP World Tour and hosting the Barbasol Championship in Kentucky. Cink, Kuchar and Tringale are in the field for the Scottish Open, while Hadley, Reeves, Werenski and Whaley are competing in Kentucky.

DICKSON WINS GPRO TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

First-year pro Will Dickson won his second professional title last week with a come-from-behind victory at the season-ending GPro Tour Championship in Hertford, N.C. The 2021 Georgia Tech graduate shot 7-under-par 65 in each of the final two rounds to ascend to the top of the leaderboard, earning a $15,000 paycheck and a third-place finish in the tour’s points ranking.

Dickson won the Daytona Open back in February, posted two other top-10 finishes and never finished lower than 17th place, other than one missed cut, in nine events.

Andy Ogletree tied for ninth place in the GPro Tour Championship, posting a 15-under-par total of 273 for a $2,250 payday. The 2019 U.S. Amateur champion won the Gaston Championship last September, giving him a win and a ninth-place finish in three events during the 2021-22 season.

The regional tour will begin its 2022-23 season in August with the Greenville (N.C.) Open.

JACKETS SHUT OUT ON KORN FERRY TOUR

Anders Albertson, Paul Haley II and Chris Petefish all missed the cut in last weekend’s The Ascendant in Berthoud, Colo., contested on the longest golf course ever played on the tour (more than 7,900 yards).

Haley and Albertson each slipped two spots, to 14th and 15th, respectively, on the Korn Ferry Tour points list with four events remaining on the regular-season schedule. The top 25 in points at that time will be awarded PGA Tour cards for 2022-23.

SCHNIEDERJANS SOLID IN CANADA

Luke Schniederjans was the only Yellow Jacket to take home a paycheck last weekend on the PGA Tour Canada, tying for 23rd place at the Prince Edward Island Open. After sharing the 36-hole lead with opening rounds of 70-65, Schniederjans shot 70-73 on the weekend to finish at 10-under-par 278. He stands 25th on the tour’s points list.

J.T. Griffin missed the cut after posting a pair of even-par rounds of 72, and Tyler Strafaci withdrew after opening with a 77.
