Georgia Tech Holds Annual Pro Day

THE FLATS – Fifty-four coaches, scouts and front office personnel representing all 32 National Football League teams and two Canadian Football League organizations converged at Georgia Tech on Thursday for the Yellow Jackets’ annual Pro Day.

Seven members of Georgia Tech’s 2022 team participated: wide receiver Malachi Carter (who officially measured at 6-foot-2, 191 pounds), linebacker Ayinde Eley (6-3, 230), running back Hassan Hall (5-10, 196), wide receiver/tight end E.J. Jenkins (6-6, 245), offensive lineman William Lay III (6-1, 275), linebacker Charlie Thomas (6-3, 219), defensive lineman Keion White (6-5, 281). Former Yellow Jacket Nathan Cottrell, who played at Tech from 2015-19 and was a member of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars from 2020-21, also auditioned for the assembled NFL personnel.

White, who is widely considered to be a potential first-round pick in next month’s NFL Draft, only participated in the 40-yard dash on Thursday. He recorded very favorable times, ranging from 4.65 to 4.75 according to hand-timing amongst the assembled scouts. Should White be selected in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft, he would become Georgia Tech’s first-round pick since Derrick Morgan and Demaryius Thomas were both first-rounders in 2010.

Thomas, who like White was invited to participate in this month’s NFL Combine, only participated in position drills on Thursday.

Jenkins, turned heads with a sub-4.6-second 40-yard dash, 32-inch vertical jump and 10-foot, 2-inch broad jump in his 6-6, 245-pound frame.

Hall also showed impressive physical attributes, running the 40-yard dash in under 4.5 seconds, leading all participants with a 37-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot, 10-inch broad jump and bench-pressing 225 pounds 18 times.

Eley matched Jenkins’ 32-inch vertical and also led all participants with 20 reps in the 225-pound bench press.

Carter also impressed in the 40-yard dash (sub-4.7 seconds) while Lay displayed power with 18 reps in the 225-pound bench press.

All of the prospects except White also performed in a variety of position-specific on-field drills.

Up next is the 2023 NFL Draft, which will be held April 27-29 in Kansas City.
