Georgia Tech became the first Atlantic Coast Conference team in seven seasons to limit Clemson to less than 20 points and less than 300 yards in last Saturday’s narrow 14-8 defeat to the sixth-ranked Tigers. Prior to last Saturday, Clemson had not scored under 20 points or totaled fewer than 300 yards in an ACC game since Georgia Tech surrendered just 190 yards in a 28-6 victory over the Tigers on Nov. 15, 2014.

Top Storylines

• Georgia Tech football renews an old rivalry in a new setting on Saturday night when it hosts longtime Atlantic Coast Conference foe North Carolina at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

• Saturday’s game is the first of six contests that Georgia Tech will host annually over the next six seasons (2021-26) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the downtown Atlanta home of the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons, Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United and the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Mercedes-Benz Stadium is located less than one mile from Georgia Tech’s midtown Atlanta campus.

• The game will be the second that Georgia Tech has played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Yellow Jackets played in the second college football game ever staged at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the 2017 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, where they dropped a 42-41 two-overtime thriller to Tennessee.

• Georgia Tech is coming off a heartbreaking 14-8 defeat at No. 6 Clemson last Saturday. Tech outgained Clemson, 309-285, and became the first ACC team to hold the Tigers to under 20 points and under 300 yards in seven years, but came up just inches short of having a chance to send the game to overtime in the waning seconds.

• After a one-year hiatus, Georgia Tech and North Carolina renew their ACC rivalry, which was played annually from 1980-2019 before the string of 40-straight annual matchups was derailed by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

• Georgia Tech leads the all-time series versus North Carolina, 30-22-3, including a 19-9 advantage in games played in Atlanta.
