ATLANTA–Georgia Tech golf standout Roberto Castro and volleyball star Lindsey Laband were named the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, October 04, 2004.
Castro, a sophomore from Alpharetta, Ga., was Tech’s top finisher at the Ping/Golfweek Preview. Castro finished in a tie for seventh place with a one-over par 21 and helped lead the team to a second place finish at the prestigious tournament, four shots behind Oklahoma State.
Laband, a junior from Monument, Colo., led the volleyball team to two ACC victories on the road this week. The setter averaged 17.43 assists per game and helped the team hit .346 as a team during the week, including a season high .360 against Clemson. Against Clemson, she recorded a career-high 70 assists. Laband is currently ranked second in the nation in assists per game.
