ATLANTA – Brittany Barnes and David Duncan were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, April 30, 2007.
Barnes, a junior from Lawrenceville, Ga., led the 20th-ranked Yellow Jackets to their third consecutive sweep in Atlantic Coast Conference play and a school record 15-game winning streak with a 5-0 mark for the week. She had a pair of hits in a sweep over in-state rival Georgia State, 6-2 and 4-1, on Wednesday. Over the weekend against Virginia, Barnes exploded for three home runs and 10 RBIs in the doubleheader on Friday in a pair of five-inning wins, 12-3 and 15-0. On Saturday, Barnes went 3-for-4, with two doubles, to lead the Jackets to an 11-10 come-from-behind victory. The third baseman extended her hitting streak to a career-high seven games, and hit .500, with three home runs, two doubles, 10 RBIs, and posted a 1.188 slugging percentage
Duncan, a sophomore from New Richmond, Ohio, held 17th-ranked Clemson to just four hits through 7.1 innings of work in the series opener. He allowed just two runners past first base in his first seven innings while extending his scoreless innings streak to 12.2 innings dating back to last week’s outing against 20th-ranked NC State. Duncan has pitched well in his last four outings, despite tossing 26.1-consecutive innings without the Yellow Jackets scoring a run in support of his strong pitching.
