ATLANTA–Auburn’s Gabor Zoltan Pelva defeated Jose Luis Muguruza in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, in the deciding match at No. 1 singles to give the 19th-ranked Tigers a 4-3 victory over the Georgia Tech men’s tennis team Saturday at Auburn.
Tech, ranked 47th, fell to 5-2, while Auburn ran its record to 8-0 on the season.
The Jackets jumped to a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point, and then teams battled to a 3-3 tie in singles, setting up the deciding match at No. 1 singles, where Pelva earned the three-set victory over Muguruza, ranked 18th in the nation.
Tech also got singles victories from David North at the No. 3 flight and George Gvelesani at No. 6, both in straight sets.
In doubles, the Jackets used victories from North and Rajevac at No. 1 and Muguruza and Scott Blackmon at No. 2 doubles to claim the point.
