Aguirre, Hwang Claim Doubles Title at ITA Summer Regional

ATLANTA — Georgia Tech’s Sergio Aguirre (Atlanta, Ga.) and Gordan Hwang (San Jose, Calif.) won the men’s doubles championship at the Southeast Region of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Collegiate Summer Circuit at the Bill Moore Tennis Center on Tech’s campus.

Aguirre and Hwang defeated the Auburn tandem of Tiago Ruffoni and Mark Kovaks, 8-6, in the final. Notre Dame’s Casey Smith claimed the men’s singles title with a 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 win over Ruffoni.

The sister combination of Christa and Lori Grey won the women’s doubles title with an 8-4 win over Jessica Garrow (Colorado) and Christine Weber (LSU). Christa Grey is a rising sophomore at Georgia and Lori is a Georgia signee for next season. Lori Grey won the women’s singles title by downing Furman’s Megan Dunigan, 6-4, 6-2.

Tech’s Hwang and Jason Jeong (Woodstock, Ill.) both advanced to the semifinals of the men’s singles tournament, while Aguirre advanced to the quarters.

On the women’s side, Tech’s Mason Miller (Gainesville, Ga.) advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles and teamed with rising Tech senior Sabrina Pardo (Aix En Provence, France) to advance to the quarterfinals of the doubles.

The ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit is made up of five regional circuits for collegiate players as well as the general public.
