ACC Academic Honor Roll

Aug. 11, 2004

Thirteen current members of the Georgia Tech football team, including all-conference tailback P.J. Daniels, wide receiver Nate Curry and linebackers Gerris Wilkinson and Chris Reis, were named to the 2003-04 Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll, announced by Commissioner John Swofford.

The 48th annual Honor Roll, noting academic excellence for the 2003-04 school year, is comprised of those student-athletes who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a grade point average of 3.0 or better for the full academic year.

Long-snapper Andrew Economos, center Kevin Tuminello, placekicker Travis Bell, punter Andy Thomson and offensive lineman Gavin Tarquinio were also named to the ACC Honor Roll, along with quarterback Robby Brown, defensive end Travis Rogers, and linebackers Arthur Rozier and David Sanborn.

In addition to the 13 current players, 11 members of last year’s team were on the Honor Roll, including honorable mention all-ACC tight end John Paul Foschi and punter Hal Higgins, for a total of 24 football student-athletes. Will Hardy, a senior in 2003, is one of just three ACC student-athletes who were named to the ACC Honor Roll for the fifth straight year, along with Duke men’s basketball player Nick Horvath and NC State cross country runner Megan Coombs.

A total of 112 Tech student-athletes in all sports were named to the Honor Roll, including men’s basketball standout Marvin Lewis, baseball star Micah Owings, all-America golfers Nick Thompson and Chan Wongluekiet, all-America volleyball player Kele Eveland and all-America runner Brendon Mahoney.

Lewis, who led the Jackets all the way to the NCAA title game, was joined on the Honor Roll by teammates David Nelson and Keith Jones. The men’s and women’s track programs had 36 student-athletes honored, while 24 members of the men’s and women’s swimming program were tabbed to the Honor Roll. Five of the six players on Tech’s nationally-ranked golf team and five of seven members of the women’s tennis squad earned Honor Roll status.

In addition to five-year honoree Hardy, 10 Tech student-athletes made the Honor Roll for the fourth straight year: Eveland, Mahoney, Brian Camp (football), Dan Burnett (football), Jennifer Christensen (swimming) Barton Crist (track) Itai Eden (swimming), Neta Ezer (track), Jennifer Lentz (track) and David Schmidt (track),
