Yellow Jackets Sweep Doubles On Final Day At Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team swept doubles matches with Iowa and Vanderbilt on the final day of the Schwartz Tennis Challenge hosted by the Purdue Boilermakers at the Schwartz Tennis Center on the Purdue campus.

Georgia Tech senior Caroline Lilley and freshman Jasmine Minor each went 3-0 on the final day of the Yellow Jackets’ fall season.

Lilley and Minor teamed up to defeat Iowa’s team of Ally Majercik and Shelby Talcott, 8-3, and then downed Vanderbilt’s side of Ashleigh Antal and Chelsea Preeg, 8-5.

Lilley, ranked No. 69 in singles, cruised past the Commodores’ 66th-ranked Chelsea Preeg, 6-1, 6-1, to cap her day. Minor was equally impressive in her singles match, defeating the Dores’ Megan Gornet, 6-1, 6-1.

Tech was able to sweep the Hawkeyes in doubles after senior Viet Ha Ngo and sophomore Muriel Wacker blanked Iowa’s team of Katie Zordani and Ellen Silver 8-0 and the Jacket pair of senior Lynn Blau and junior Elizabeth Kilborn battled past Christina Harazin and Cassandra Escobar, 8-4.

In the Yellow Jackets’ second doubles matches of the day, senior Jillian O’Neill and sophomore Alex Anghelescu earned an 8-3 win over Vanderbilt’s Marie Casares and Lauren Mira. Ngo and Wacker earned their second doubles win of the day with an 8-1 victory over the Commodores’ Nelly Radeva and Alex Leatu.

O’Neill, ranked No. 21 in singles, added a 7-6 (3), 7-5 win over VU’s Casares for her second win of the day. Kilborn battled for a 7-5, 7-5 win over Illinois’ Amy Allin.

The Yellow Jackets will begin the spring season with the Michigan Invitational on Jan. 14-16.
