April 1, 2007

Charlottesville, Va. – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team fell to No. 2 Virginia, 7-0, Sunday at the Snyder Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Virginia. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets slip to 5-12 overall and 2-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Cavaliers swept doubles to take an early 1-0 lead over Tech.

In singles play, Jose Muguruza dropped the No. 1 singles match in straight sets to Somdev Devvarman, the second-ranked player in the country. Eric Molnar, playing in the second singles spot, fell to the 22nd-ranked player in the country, Treat Huey, 6-2, 6-1. Zach Rath dropped the fourth singles match to Marko Milko, 6-1, 6-4 while Luke Rassow-Kantor lost to Houston Barrick in the fifth spot. George Gvelesiani returned to singles play, but fell to Ted Angelinos in the last singles spot.

Junior Scott Blackmon, facing No. 84 Dominic Inglot in the third singles spot, won the first set 7-6(2), but dropped the second set in another tiebreak, 6-7 (8).
