Atlanta – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team travels to Boone, N.C. to take on the Mountaineers of Appalachian State at 7 p.m. at Holmes Convocation Center Tuesday in their first road game of the season. This will be Tech’s first trip to Appalachian State in ten years.
Georgia Tech leads the series 5-1 and hasn’t lost to the Mountaineers since the first meeting, in 1988, losing 59-83. Last year’s November 11 match-up was the first time the two teams played since 1996 and resulted in a 68-45 Yellow Jacket victory. Senior Stephanie Higgs led the team in scoring that outing with 13 points, six rebounds and three steals.
The Jackets are coming off an 87-48 season opening win over Mercer Friday. Junior Chioma Nnamaka led the way to the team’s 12 three-pointers, shooting five for seven from behind the arc. Higgs finished the night with 21 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Freshman Tiffany Blackmon saw significant playing time in her college basketball debut, knocking down four of six from the field with three rebounds.
Georgia Tech returns to the Thriller Dome Thursday when they host Georgia State in the second game of a men’s and women’s double header. The Georgia Tech men, who will also take on Georgia State Thursday, tip off at 6 p.m. with the women tipping off 30 minutes after the conclusion of that game.
