Women’s Tennis Heads to North Carolina for Two Matches

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s tennis is set to face two top-10 programs this weekend in its final Atlantic Coast Conference road trip. The Yellow Jackets head to No. 10 Duke on Friday afternoon before facing top-ranked North Carolina on Sunday.

Winners of three of its past four matches, No. 31 Georgia Tech (12-6, 7-2 ACC) enters the weekend coming off a decisive 5-2 win over Clemson last Saturday. With four matches left of the regular season, the Yellow Jackets look to continue their winning ways this weekend. In the latest ITA rankings released on Wednesday, Carol Lee and Kylie Bilchev continue to lead the Jackets, coming in at No. 60 and No. 85 in singles, respectively. Georgia Tech’s doubles team of Lee and Kate Sharabura climbed to No. 6 in the latest rankings, while Bilchev and Ava Hrastar moved to No. 27.

Duke moved back into the top-10 this week after upsetting then-No. 2 NC State, 4-3, to improve to 13-3 overall and 8-2 in ACC play. The win over the Wolfpack snapped a two-match skid against Florida State and Miami. The Blue Devils boast four nationally ranked singles players and three nationally ranked doubles teams. Duke leads the all-time series against Georgia Tech, 37-11, but the Yellow Jackets have taken four of the past six meetings, including two last season.

Remaining undefeated on the season, No. 1 North Carolina comes into its final regular season home series with a 21-0 overall record and 10-0 ACC ledger. UNC will host Clemson on Friday before welcoming the Yellow Jackets on Sunday. The Tar Heels claimed the ITA National Indoor Championships for the third consecutive season earlier this year. Five Tar Heels appear in the top 50 of the latest ITA rankings, including three in the top 25. UNC also boasts the top-ranked doubles team in the country of Fiona Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty. North Carolina leads the all-time series, 39-12, and has won five straight against Tech, including the ACC Championship match last season.
