Women's Swimming Incoming Class Ranked 24th

July 24, 2014

THE FLATS – When the 2014-15 swimming and diving season begins for Georgia Tech on October 3 at Penn State, the Yellow Jackets will boast an incoming women’s swimming class that was ranked 24th nationally by collegeswimming.com.

The five female swimmers that comprise Tech’s incoming class — Alex Rieger (Davis, Calif.), Kira de Bruyn (Marietta, Ga.), Morgan Lyons (Alpharetta, Ga.), Megan Young (Woodstock, Ga.), MaryKatherine Terry (Atlanta) — and joined by female divers Ellen Posh (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) and Caroline Price (Duluth, Ga,) — are among 14 new swimming & diving faces on the Flats this season.

“The Ramblin’ Wreck only lost 20 individual points and 20 relay points from their ACC run,” said collegeswimming.com. “de Bruyn and Rieger are capable of making immediate impacts in the ACC with individual and relay points.”

Sixth-year head coach Courtney Shealy Hart continues to attract strong recruiting classes to Georgia Tech, as its 2011 men’s incoming class was ranked as high as sixth nationally by collegeswimming.com. That men’s class are now seniors, highlighted by All-American Andrew Kosic, and NCAA qualifiers Nico van Duijn and Andrew Chetcuti.

“I’ve said this is probably one of the best female recruiting classes that we’ve had in my time at Georgia Tech,” said Hart. “I think Alex (Reiger) can help us immediately in the sprint events, and we’re thrilled to keep local swimmers with the talent of Kira, Morgan, Megan and MaryKatherine close to home. I’m really excited about our team as whole and can’t wait to get the season started.”
