THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball was named NCAA.com and U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Team of the Week after upsetting then-No. 3/2 UConn on Dec. 9. The win ended UConn’s 240-game win streak against unranked teams.

The Yellow Jackets outscored the Huskies, 18-5, in the final quarter to walk away with an impressive 57-44 decision, marking Tech’s first win over a top-3 opponent since 2009. Neither team led by more than four points through three quarters and stood tied entering the final 10 minutes before the Jackets dominated the final frame on both ends of the floor.

The loss was UConn’s first to an unranked team since 2012 and the first scoring under 45 points since 2006. With the loss, UConn dropped to No. 7 in the Associated Press women’s poll for its lowest ranking since 2007. Meanwhile, Georgia Tech jumped back into the national polls, coming in at No. 18 in the AP poll and No. 21 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Georgia Tech returns to the hardwood on Sunday, Dec. 19, opening conference play hosting Wake Forest. Tip is slated for 6 p.m. in McCamish Pavilion on the ACC Network.
