THE FLATS – Georgia Tech volleyball will travel to Brazil as part of its NCAA Foreign Tour, stopping in four different cities throughout its journey from May 17-June 3. The White and Gold will stop in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Recife and Fernando de Noronha as they line up against local clubs, experience the cities and culture, and grow together as a team.
The Yellow Jackets will first land in Rio de Janeiro, where they will stroll along the famous beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema while training and competing against some traditional clubs in the area. Tech will then make its way to São Paulo to square off against very solid competition and experience one of the world’s most populated megacities. Next up, the White and Gold will head to coach Michelle Collier’s hometown of Recife, where they will spend some time along Brazil’s northeast coast and continue to face strong competition and beautiful sights. Georgia Tech’s final destination will be Fernando de Noronha Island, a protected national marine park and ecological sanctuary, making it one of the world’s top destinations.
“I love the opportunity to bring our program to Brazil,” said Collier. “Our last foreign tour in 2016 was amazing, and it feels great to be able to have our players see a different culture, play against some great competition and travel to a couple of the world’s most beautiful places. Brazil is a country that loves the game of volleyball and also loves to share its culture and is a great host. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for all of us – us Brazilians included – to share such a special time together. Looking forward to an awesome two weeks of fun, sun, and great volleyball.”
