Volleyball Team Kicks Off 2000 Campaign With A Win; Defeats Davidson 3-0

DAVIDSON, NC (September 1) – The Georgia Tech volleyball (1-0) team began their 2000 season with a 3-0 (15-12, 15-8, 16-14) victory as they defeated host Davidson College (0-1) Friday afternoon.

Junior outside hitter Maja Pachale (Schwerin, Germany) led the Yellow Jackets to the win with a match-high 17 kills. She also added five total blocks and eight digs. Three other Tech players ended the match with double-figure kills as Ida Mabry (Divjake, Albania) tallied 15, Kyleen Bell (Rocklin, Calif.) recorded 11, and Teryl Townsend (Alexandria, Minn.) chipped in 10. The Jackets were led defensively by Townsend and Kele Eveland (Grand Rapids, Mich.) who each had 18 digs on the afternoon. Eveland also tallied 39 assists for Tech.

Brooke Bentley led the Wildcats with 14 kills and 12 digs.

The Yellow Jackets will take on UNC-Wilmington in the opening match of the Davidson Invitational Friday at 5 p.m.
