ATLANTA, GA. (Sept. 16) – Georgia Tech’s volleyball team won its second consecutive match Thursday night, defeating Illinois State 3-1 (15-7, 14-16, 15-7, 15-13) at O’Keefe Gymnasium.
Despite struggling on the attack, the Jackets (6-3) posted an outstanding total of 19.5 team blocks, 11 of which resulted from the play of sophomore middle blocker Ky Bell (Rocklin, Calif.). Bell’s total falls one short of the school record of 12, shared by Lisa Kofskey and Kerry Annel.
Bell also added 19 kills, and hit for a solid .367 hitting percentage on the evening. Senior setter Carolyn Clevenger (Oakland, Calif.) added 38 assists to aide the Tech offense.
Junior middle blocker Kendra Haselhorst led the Redbirds (3-5) with 18 kills, while sophomore setter Becky Weber contributed 47 assists.
Tech returns to action Friday afternoon against Winthrop at 4 p.m. ET, in the Jackets’ opening match in the Alabama Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Jackets will face Air Force, Belmont, Winthrop, and the host school, Alabama, in the two-day event.
