Tuminello is Gator Bowl Scholar-Athlete

Dec. 29, 2006

Georgia Tech center Kevin Tuminello was honored with the Toyota Gator Bowl Scholar-Athlete Award as Yellow Jacket players and coaches attended the Gator Bowl Hall of Fame Luncheon Friday.

A junior from Youngstown, Ohio, Tuminello is a Dean’s List student in Building Construction. He was named to the 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic football team as well as the ACC Academic Honor Roll the last three years.

Tuminello is a two-year starter at center with 27 career starts. He has helped the Tech offense rank second in the ACC in rushing while blocking for the league’s leading rusher, Tashard Choice.

Also at the luncheon, former Tech Director of Athletics Dave Braine was inducted into the Gator Bowl Hall of Fame. Braine, who retired last January after nearly nine years at the helm of the Tech program, took three teams to the Gator Bowl as an athletics director – Georgia Tech in 1999 and 2000 and Virginia Tech in 1994. He also played in the 1963 Gator Bowl for North Carolina.

Following the luncheon, Tech players visited Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital before going to practice.
