Theresa Wenzel, who joined the Georgia Tech Athletic Association staff in October of 2005, has been named Assistant Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator, Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich announced.
Mollie Mayfield, who has served as Tech’s SWA for the last year, will concentrate on her role as Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Business.
In her new role, Wenzel will oversee the sports of women’s basketball, volleyball, softball, golf, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track and cross country, and men’s and women’s swimming.
Wenzel possesses a wide range of experience in athletic administration and coaching. She came to Tech last fall after eight years at Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y., where she served as Assistant and then Associate Athletics Director for business operations while also coaching the women’s golf team.
Wenzel originally went to Siena in 1997 and spent one year as the school’s intramural director and assistant facilities director. She was named Assistant Athletics Director for business operations and head women’s golf coach in 1998.
In seven seasons as head golf coach, Wenzel led the Saints to five consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference titles from 2001-05. She relinquished her coaching duties following the 2005 season, when she was promoted to Associate Athletics Director.
Wenzel spent three years (1994-97) as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y., and she also served an internship with the National Invitation Tournament.
A basketball letterwinner at Marquette University, Wenzel earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Marquette in 1991. She added a master’s degree in sport administration from Canisius in 2000.
