ATLANTA – Georgia Tech’s lone, two-hour practice Tuesday afternoon came in 95-degree weather at Rose Bowl Fields.
The Yellow Jackets worked on 1-on-1 and 7-on-7 drills before engaging in team drills, wearing full pads for the third-straight day.
Despite the hot weather, players’ spirits were high early as sophomore defensive back Mario Edwards laid a bone-crushing hit on sophomore wide receiver Demaryius Thomas on an end around play that resulted in a fumble, causing a roar from the rest of the defense.
Game situations are being introduced early in camp to the young Tech team. The Yellow Jackets ended practice in team competition with the offense beginning its drives on the one-yard line.
“Field position is important,” head coach Paul Johnson said after practice. “The offense has to get yardage and the defense has to keep from giving it up.”
Highlighting the offense was a nice 15-yard diving catch by Thomas on a pass from sophomore quarterback Josh Nesbitt, and a break-away run from sophomore running back Anthony Allen, a Louisville transfer. The defense stifled the offense with some highlights of its own, causing a couple safeties in the process.
On Wednesday, the team will continue two-a-days with a morning practice at 9:30 a.m. and an evening practice at 5:15 p.m.
