THE FLATS – Former Georgia Tech volleyball standout, Teegan Van Gunst has been named to the Team USA indoor volleyball roster for the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei, Taiwan in August.
The Universiade is organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) as an international multi-sports event for university athletes. The first Universiade was held in 1959 in Torino, Italy.
During the summer of 2016, Van Gunst traveled to Indianapolis, Ind. to train and compete as part of the U.S. Collegiate National Team – Indianapolis program.
Van Gunst was recently nominated for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. She was awarded an NCAA postgraduate scholarship as well as an ACC postgraduate scholarship. She was named the ACC Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the Year following her senior campaign.
She is a four-time All-ACC Academic team member and a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America honoree, earning first team recognition this past season. Adding to her accolades, Van Gunst is a two-time AVCA All-Region selection and a two-time AVCA Honorable Mention All-American. The Yellow Jacket has also been an All-ACC First Team member, twice.
Van Gunst finished her career tied for 10th on Georgia Tech’s all-time career kills list (1,453) and 10th on the Georgia Tech single-season kills list (507). She helped the Yellow Jackets finish tied for third in the ACC and to their best season in terms of overall (.750) and ACC (.750) winning percentages in 12 years – since 2004 (.794 overall, 1.000 ACC).
